Sir, – Because the TLS is read in Russia, I am hoping you will permit me to correct a small error that appeared in Wendy Slater's review (In Brief, July 15) of my book, The Victims Return: Survivors of the Gulag after Stalin.
Your reviewer reports that the book was published in Russia in 2009. Actually, she has in mind a much shorter forerunner of the book, Dolgoe vozvrashchenie (The Long Return). The Victims Return was published in Moscow this March as Zhizn’ posle GULAGa (Life after the Gulag) jointly by AIRO XXI and the newspaper Novaia gazeta.
